Almost There

Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookie Mini Cupcakes from Vinta Truffles

This is it! The final stretch.

Two more days until I check into the hospital for my induction. That is, unless this little guy decides to make an appearance before then! While I understand the reasons behind having to be induced, I'm also kind of sad that I'll miss out on the element of surprise of a completely natural labour: the false alarms, the frantic rush to the hospital, my water breaking in a humiliating way... Who knows? That may all still be in the cards!

What a week, though! After suffering an excruciating toothache since Wednesday last week, I finally took the plunge and had an emergency root canal done yesterday. A root canal and labour in one week! No one can possibly question my high threshold for pain. I am so thankful that I won't have to greet my little man with all this pain going on in my face. I can finally focus on his arrival!

Next time I post, I may just be a mama...

The Last Weekend...

Today, it's hit me...

This is the last weekend hubby and I will spending on our own. My due date is fast approaching (March 8), and while there's a good chance our little bubba will turn up before then, he will not be staying cosied up with Mommy past that day. Whatever happens, we've scheduled an appointment for an induction on Friday March 8. We were recently told that our little guy has got his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck twice, and while the doctor is not worried about this at all (almost 50% of babies are born just fine with the cord wrapped around their necks) he's advised against going past the due date in case the extra weight gain causes complications.

So, this is it! We will definitely (all being well!) have a baby to cuddle this time next week. It probably sounds like I'm exaggerating when I say that it still hasn't sunk in, but I'm telling you, this is all so surreal! And yet, I really can't wait to meet this little companion of mine of the past nine months.

What will he look like? Who will he take after? What sort of disposition will he have? So many questions which will soon be answered.

How did you feel when you were expecting?

2012, You've Been Good: Part 1

This post has been a long time coming! I've been meaning to write it for ages but with it being the busiest period of my life EVER, I just haven't found the right time.  I have to start off by saying that 2012 has been one super-duper AWESOME year. In a nutshell, these are the reasons why: we travelled to four different places, lived in three different homes, went on honeymoon, I started a new dream job, and the biggest one of all - became a soon-to-be MOMMY!

I find month-by-month reviews are really fun to read and a great documentation of the year gone. Here is mine (part 1):

JANUARY
The start of a new year and we spend it in our new garden flat. It's old, it's small, it has a garden. But it's not for us. By the end of the month we move into a new place. It has 2 bedrooms, a nice big living room and an office space - it's also super cheap and a 2mins walk from my parents' place. Hubby and I go on a lovely weekend getaway to Pelion - a 5 hour drive north of Athens.

FEBRUARY
Sis has finally taken the plunge and accepted a job offer in NYC! I'm really sad to see her go but at the same time, I'm SO happy for her and this new chapter in her life. ALSO, I get to travel to NYC to help her settle in! Before this, I'm in London for some more red-carpet shenanigans at the BAFTAs.

MARCH
Meet a young film director that will really help me get my business/hobby, Outatime Films, off the ground. Working on her film takes me on a whirlwind: I met lots of amazing industry people, gained so much experience in film sales and promotion and achieved one of my all-time professional highs. I hope to pick up Outatime Films again when things eventually start to die down. We visit London to meet our new niece.

APRIL
We welcome KITTY! We adopt her from a rescue charity and she has brought so much joy into our lives ever since. We struggle settling on a name (she's gone from Tube to Stitch to Indy) but only one name eventually sticks: Kitty Kitty Stinkybum Catkins! We spend Easter in beautiful Aegina with my dad and it's truly magical. My lovely former colleagues from London come to visit too. Love 'em! We list my sister's beautiful apartment on Airbnb. It proved a very fruitful endeavour!

MAY
Three words: CANNES FILM FESTIVAL. I spend the month preparing for the film's big European debut at the Short Film Market. What an experience! Red carpets, VIP screenings, the Croisette, star-spotting, networking, jacuzzis, rain, Swedes, meeting up with old friends and making new ones. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I can't wait to do it again! Once that's all died down, the truly wonderful in-laws come to visit us in Athens.

JUNE
Hubby and I have decided to start trying for a baby. EEEK! So much excitement! Hubby gets called off to a conference (in, luckily, one of the most stunning beach resorts on mainland Athens) so I tag along and spend a week on a beach lounger reading The Hunger Games trilogy. Heaven. At the end of the month, my mom, aunt, cousin and a couple of other friends decide to go on a girly weekend to Aegina. GREAT time. At this point, I'm 3 days late... :) :)

I'd love to hear about the highlights from your 2012. Fill me in in the comments section below!
